A Holy Day of Obligation?
Imagine for a moment that we would perceive the earth as something holy, truly as a gift from God!
Would wars that destroy cease?
Would we be more cautious about stripping away the natural landscape in favor of concrete jungles?
Would we realize that the earth is a living organism, worthy of our respect and care?
Perhaps……
Perhaps peace begins with respect of our surroundings and the environment.
Perhaps caring for this sphere we all live on is the responsibility of all of us.
Perhaps we need to realize once and for all that we cannot improve on the creation of God Almighty and make sure that sustainability is not about the convenience of the moment or a plastic bag, but rather about how we renew the resources we utilize.
What would happen if every decision we made was with five generations in the future as our primary focus?
Perhaps then, Earth Day would be Holy and observed.
