“Then one of the twelve – the one called Judas Iscariot – went to the chief priests and asked; ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?’ So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.”
Matthew 25:14-16
Is there anything more painful then betrayal? When our heart is wounded, that is almost always more painful than a physical cut.
And when that betrayal comes from someone close and trusted, it can take us into a depth of darkness that can cause evil thoughts of revenge and pain.
Judas betrayed Jesus after having been part of the ‘inner circle’ for the three years of His ministry. He heard the message of love and witnessed the healing power of God, but his heart didn’t absorb the truth it offered. His betrayal has throughout history been regarded as one of the worst acts ever, and his real reasons for the act died with him.
But there is a bright spot and example for us to follow. Even when Judas was in process of the betrayal, Jesus offered him forgiveness and reconciliation. Perhaps that example of love is one of the lessons we were meant to learn. After all, when someone destroys our trust, our hearts are often broken beyond repair.
We need to hear the message of love, compassion and forgiveness first for ourselves as we heal; then do our best to offer the same to those who caused the pain.
Jesus gave us the example through the pain. We need to pray for the strength and courage to follow His path.
Tough message, but without a doubt, a healing moment……
I am praying for you!
